Whether you have chosen a studio or on location session rest assured that we will have some FUN! I think that is the magic ingredient that must be present for truly captivating photographs. My goal is to really connect with your child, get them to play and have fun and hopefully in the process get some special images of your little one.
My style of photography:
Please take a look around my galleries to make sure that my style of photography is what best fits your needs. Custom photography can take so many forms and there are many beautiful artists out there creating them. I have chosen to specialize in capturing natural, candid and emotion envoking images of children, but I know that my style may not be best suited for everybody. I do not use traditional backdrops, so if this is your vision for your photographs I am probably not the photographer for you, but would be happy to suggest some other photographers who do a beautiful job in their area of specialty.
What to expect (or what NOT to expect):
On the day of your session I ask you to trust me to create the best possible photographs of your child. In order to do this I need to be able to engage with your children in a natural and playful way. While I may ask for your help at times in guiding your child to our next general area, most of the time you get to sit back relax and enjoy the magic of making beautiful photographs of your child! Please refrain from telling your child to smile or say cheese. I want your child to forget that photographs are the goal of our time and instead want them to feel comfortable to laugh, play and have FUN! These are the emotions that you will cherish in your final images, but I need the freedom to create those emotions with your child.
Planning for your session:
Planning for your session is very important for making the finished product from your session (the images!) everything you were hoping for. I am here to help you with every aspect of that from deciding on a location to helping you choose clothing, to helping you select images. Below are some helpful tips and suggestions to make your experience and session with me successfull your images truly fantastic.
Please make sure your child is well rested for his or her session. The actual session is fun, but very stimulating so your child may tire more quickly than you expect during the session.
Please allow a full hour for regular sessions and try to be right on time. I realize that with little ones this is sometimes difficult, but I want to ensure we have as much time as possible to work with your little ones. If we are really having a blast and your child is raring to go we may photograph for up to 2 hours, but normally children just do not last this long and I have learned to make the most of those first 30 minutes.
Please do not bring any siblings on location (unless it is a home session) who are not being photographed. This is a distraction to the child who is being photographed and is stressful for parents and the photographer. You will be much happier with your portraits if everyone is able to focus attention on the star of the session.
What to wear:
For newborns and small babies, bare skin is my favorite clothing. Newborns look so fresh and new wearing their birthday suit - nothing is more precious and adorable. Parents I know you are anxiouis to try out all of those new adorable clothes, but bring them to a later session as they will only look bunched up on a small baby. For older babies and children, when you are selecting outfits think FUN! Don't be afraid of color and try to choose colors that look good against your child's face. Do avoid small patterns though such as gingham. This will be visually distracting in the images. Larger patterns such as Matilda Jane, Mini Boden and even Tea Collection. In general try to pick outfits that have just as much personality as your little one!
What else to bring:
I always suggest to clients to consider what is really special to your child. If they have a lovie or favorite toy please bring that. We are here to make memories and you and your child will love having those favorite items captures in photographs down the road. I LOVE hats. Bring any fun hats or other accessories you have and we'll play with many of them. I love sweet little hats on newborns especially. If your child has a special activity talk to me about how we can capture that. I do have tutus and pettiskirts, hats and bows and boutique clothing your available to use for session.
I shoot sessions on Monday thru Friday and every other weekends now. I shoot both in your home and location of your choice or mine. I do ask that you pay within 48 hours of booking. We accept cash, check or paypal. Should you need to cancel please let me know with in 48 hours of your appt. ALL SESSIONS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE. We are currently booking 1-2 months in advance so please book accordingly. I always work in newborns even if my regular calendar is booked. Once you have booked a date with me I will do a phone or email consultation to talk about clothing and location choice so that we can create a one of a kind session for you that really reflects your child’s personality. This is a good time to tell me more about your children so that I can make the most of my time with them and make them feel at ease with me. Having three young children myself, I know the importance of building a relationship with the children that I photograph.
